Hi from a newbie!!

Hi all,

Just recently bought a 06 focus 1.8tdci zetec climate and thought i'd join up to pistonheads!! so hi to all!!

One query i have with the car is that it can be quite difficult to engage first, is this normal, i can sort of remembering reading this somewhere before but not sure. Or is it worth taking it to the dealer to have checked out?

Hi Paul and welcome.It could well be nothing but worth a visit to the dealer as its under warranty.

I agree with Jon.

If there's nothing wrong with it (as is prob the case) try this workaround:
I found with my Ka's gearbox sometimes flicking into second gear and then first gear would work more smoothly then going straight to first. I wouldnt actually 'engage' second gear (i.e. clutch is down the whole time), just flick the gearstick into that position before moving forward to first.

Cheers guys, i tend to think theres nothing wrong with it but will mention when its in for a service.

Yeah, ive noticed that, if i go into 2nd momentarly then it glids into first, must be due to alignment. Once its been in first with the clutch in, it will go straight back in with no resistance.
