Hello my girl friends Ford KA has a bit of a problem when you put the headlights on, the front lights come on but no lights at the back come on plus the light in the dashboard does not come on. I am thinking that it is an electrical problem. Is there a fuse board thing around i could check. Being a bit of a muppet with cars i dont want to get stung at a garage if there could be a quick fix!!!!

Many thanks.

It sounds like the light stalk is faulty.

Ideally you'd look in a Haynes manual or similar. Failing that, did an owner's handbook come with the car? It should tell you where to look for the fuses and relays in there. It is quite possible that the dash lights and rear lights run off the same circuit with a common fuse.

If memory serves, the fusebox is somewhere in the region your right knee would be in the dash behind a removeable panel in the dash. Whip it off, locate the right fuse and have a look.
Failing that I'd check the bulbs themselves, it's might be uncommon but not entirely unheard of for both to give out at the same time (take the bulb out and see if the filament has broken inside).
Check the connections are all sound too in the rear lights.
Failing that I'd bang it into an auto electricians, usually only takes them a few minutes to diagnose open circuits, earth faults and the like and rectify them.

Its not an uncommon fault and all of it runs through the light stalk.
