I had a follow up courtesy call after my 37.5k service, and the chap (sounded a bit like a salesman) proceeded to ask me whether it was my car or company, and I got the vague feeling he was trying to convince me to have a wee look at the new mondeo.

Said I was very happy with the way my st drove, and he said he agreed, it was a shame that there was no sporty option yet.

I was letting him talk, and he said he there was a possibility of a V6 diesel.

hum. Just talk?

Cos I would love them to do that.

2.7 twin turbo diesel from the jag? Would make a proper 330d rival.

Jon? You seem to be knowledgeable. Would this engine fit? Have you heard anything?

Apparently there will be a 6 il turbo engine and the v6 turbo diesel both badged as ST's , the 2.2 170bhp derv should be out next year as well

Right found this on fordeurope.net

I have been told by my colleagues that it shares the same engine as the Focus RS. I'm not on the Mondeo ST Project but I assume it uses the same running gear as the RS, which is AWD.

It won't have the same output as the Focus RS as the Focus will be more powerfull.

As I'm not on the project I do not know when it will be launched & what braking system they have chosen for it.

engines
2.7 tdci
3.0 litre Turbo inline six
Going on Sale in 2008

some pics of the mule apparently

Given the amount of trouble i got into last time i commented on forthcoming models i can only say that the v6 St Diesel is on the cards and not a moment to soon in my opinion with plenty of customers crying out for a performance diesel.

Fingers crossed it'll be available with a manual box too, unless Ford can get their twin clutch box to work with that level of torque...

Had a go in a Volvo S40 with the D5 engine, and it was severley hampered by the poor auto-box.

Anyone know roughly when in 08 for the 2.2 Diesel ?

If it was january/feb I could hang on....if its later it would be too late.

Same here, new car due in May and would need to order 3months prior.

Probably only be able to get Zetec trim with a 2.2, but that seems to have most of the useful kit on it apart from auto wipers/lights. Either that or a top spec Focus...

I haven't driven a Mondeo, but the Autocar road test figures for the 2.0 Diesel seemed distinctly average (0-100 34sec ish IIRC).

I will see if there is any information available that wont result in me visiting a public firing sqaud, lol.
The new Mondeo drives nicely but its size makes it a different animal to the older model,i'm waiting for a sporty model to make my mind up.
On the auto front i hope not too Paul.

I was very impressed with the drive as it felt considerably bigger to me,nice chassis and brakes but my ST still has it for now as i prefer the 2.2 power and the tight chassis of the older model.

Yep looks really good, but i won't be buying one if it's a step back and is nothing more than an ST24(ie-body kit but same engine). I doubt the bloody thing will fit in my garage anyway frown

Yeah, just like they're going to do a Focus RS with 4WD and 300 BHP. I'll believe it when I see it, and I believe that'll be never.
