Hi I have noticed for a few months now, a faint pungent smell coming from the air vents. We got in the car the other day and it was really bad, like rotten eggs! Not been in the car since as our lass is using it. It seems to have happened more since the last service strangely. I thought it might be bacteria in the air con or something, but we use the air con quite a bit, although it is usually just for a bit and around town?

Anybody had any similar problems and I guess I should detach my tuning box before taking it to the dealer (its still under warranty on a '05 plate)?

I also checked that there are no small dead animals wedged anywhere!!!

Cheers,

Dave

Hi

I used to get that a lot in my mondeo, normally when the A/C has been on and you turn it off. I was assured that the A/C simply needed "servicing" but after paying ford to do that it still didn't help.

Only thing i could think was to leave it running on full for a few mins (preferably not while sitting in the car) and hope that it blows some of the crap out! It seemed to help a bit but i never really got rid of the problem completely.

Thanks for the info. It's under warranty anyway so it'll be going back to the dealer. While it's there they can sort the 2 squaky front seats out as well, which are almost as annoying as the eggy smell!!! vomit

Just to add, it turns out that it is the screen wash in the filler bottle. It absolutely reeks. Can't understand why. Don't use excessive amounts of the stuff, and don't think I've mixed different types.... Will have to try flushing it out, but Can't even see the bottle to see if it is filled with sludge!! yuck

Interesting, my 2000 model is having the same problem, everytime i wash the windows i get the smell in, I use Tesco screenwash, so once it is used up I will wash the washer bottle out and change to another brand and see if that helps.

FFS don't use washing up liquid. The stuff in it is really bad for paintwork

Ford fit a filter in the bottom of the bottle which will block if you use washing up liquid,we see that all the time.I have seen a number of vehicles lately with foul smelling screen wash but dont know the answer other than flushing the system and refilling.

Are you kidding - do people really put washing up liquid in the screenwash?

Maybe when I was 17 and had my Mk2 1.1 Fiesta and no cash!!!

I am thinking of using Daz like to remove the bad smell. Would that be wise?
