Is the crank pulley retaining bolt a use once item and can the bolt be fully tightened with the crank held by the locking pin fitted through the side of the block?

Yes the bolt is once only item but only costs a few quid from ford, but you may have to order it. However I have reused them.....

DO NOT TIGHTEN THE BOLT WITH THE LOCKING PIN ON THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK IN!!

Put the car into 5th and get someone to push the brake pedal down and you should be able to tighten it against that. If the engine is out of the car make or buy a locking device for the flywheel.

Thanks for the reply. As you suggest my local dealer had to order a new bolt..cost a couple of quid. Guess the accountants won't let them keep one in the stores......................
