Well, where do i start. This car is really starting to give me grief now. Went to leave the gfs lastnight and the key wouldnt turn in the ignition for love nor money. The ignition barrel has been playing up for a while now, but yesterday, it just simply would not start. I had to get my mate to rip off all the cowling and take the little plastic thing off and i now have to start it with a screwdriver. I have another barrel at home, but how do i get it out without being able to turn the key to the '1' position in the one i have on there at the moment? Any help would be appreciated.

perhaps the barrel has little sticky out lugs that sit in the barrel housing...press `em in with a screwdriver & have a good jiggle.
Have you eyed the Haynes manual...does it say that the key need`s to be at position 1 before the barrel is removed?
It may be worth bursting the lock mechanism if all else fails if it`s getting binned in favour of another.

Yeh i have read the haynes manual, it says you need to get a small screwdriver and press in this little thing on the back, and then turn the ignition to '1' and pull the barrel out, i have a ing blister from trying to start it lastnight. Also, someone has taped a key to the immobiliser, so summat dodgy is going down. The car has no steering lock either, so i presume its been broken into before. A big bar and a FBH (ing Big Hammer) might be in order i feel.
Ok, job done, ended up drilling the barrel out, and using mole grips to turn the shaft on the back, and then a small screwdriver to press the lug in. Also done the steering rack, but had problems with the track rod ends, does anyone know whether the taper changes on them between a 1.1 and a 1.3?
