Hi fellow PHers, you know when your battery is flat and you get a whirring noise from the starter? This happens when the battery is charged. The car will start, but im afraid if i leave it much longer it may not. Ive been told the starter may be sticking? possibly from driving it through 3 foot of floodwater didnt help but never mind. Can i remove the starter slightly and put some grease in there or WD or summat like that?

Not really anywhere easy to grease up. I think they tend to have problems, I know when I had my Fiesta 1.1 it started sticking and a bang with a spaner was needed!

It's really easy to swap out yourself, so Id recommend picking up a new one from an autofactors or even getting another from a scrappy.

If you remove the motor, don't oil the gear you see at the end: it's designed to run dry and if you oiled it it could end up on the clutch plate.

If you strip the motor down, there's not much to oil inside either. I'd say it's replacement time.

Whoops a daisy! Sorry already oiled the end of it, it seems a lot better now though, i just hope nothing else goes wrong with it.
