Hi folks recently found this website and find it very interesting and full of good stuff. Really great to see some wonderful examples of the top of the range ST220 for sale in the classifieds. Quite a rare vehicle in New Zealand and hence very expensive to purchase. No great choice of models here either just the petrol version and in the standard ST range as well. The "new" Mondeo is due to be released in New Zealand later this year but it would seem there will be no 3.0 version unfortunately. I own two Mondeos an ST 2.5 V6 and a standard 2.0 litre 4 door saloon (ex Japan). Great cars and no servicing issues over here

Isn't that because the 5-pot turbo engine ( currently similar to that in the Focus ST ) will be available in the Mondeo - similar output - around 220ish bhpDave_ST220 said:
At present Ford are saying no ST version. I've heard there will be on diesel version next year, i'd say there will be a petrol version but probably with the same engine at the Titanium X (2.5 Turbo 5 pot) I'll be keeping mine
Quite disappointing news, isn't it? Having said that, the 2.5 straight-5 is good for 300 BHP+. If you don't mind putting it through the front wheels then it's certainly worth considering. I'd hope it would be more economical than the 3 litre V6 anyway. 20.5 MPG is beginning to bite!Witchfinder said:

25mpg if you believe the guys at Autocar. They've used a new 2.5T Titanium X as the counterpoint in their 40k heroes test in today's issue Witchfinder said:

Focus is due for an update so the FST will cease production soon, all you have using that lump then is the Mondeo & S Max. Time for a V6 turbo i think
Thanks Mike you are probably right. Having said that even the Focus ST will be available only as a customer request item I believe. I saw one (coloured electric orange) in a showroom the other day specifically imported from Japan for a customer so it too will remain an enthusiasts only vehicle here in NZ I suspect

That's the way Vauxhall went with the Vectra VXR - up to around 280bhp now roughly I think and EDS do a 340bhp conversionShropshiremike said:

It's too bloody big anyway-will never fit in my garage 20.5?? Mine is brand new, i'm ragging it and i'm getting 24 at the moment
Practially all of my driving is urban. Still, I used to get 22 MPG only 4-5 months ago which is concerning. I wonder if something is wrong.Dave_ST220 said:
I dunno why but a 5 pot just doesn't have the same appeal as a V6 to me...........
It sounds bloody lovely in the Focus ST. Lots of great noise on the overrun. It just needs the right exhaust and intake to make it sound fab.Dave_ST220 said:

Aren't they developing a turbo straight-six? Will Ford get shut of Volvo anyway? I thought Volvo were profitable?Witchfinder said:

Volvo are profitable. As were Aston Martin, and as are Jaguar, Land Rover and Ford Europe. It is Ford US that are (or were) making huge losses. I think their reasoning is that nobody would want to buy the parts of the group that are making a loss and if they can sell bits off over a period, then it will make them look consistently profitable.
I thought Jaguar were heamoraging cash like Michael Carroll? There's sense in keeping Volvo - engine and platform sharing make them a solid member of the group, whereas Aston Martin Lagonda never really seemed to fit. Jaguar needs to either turn around or be put down. There's no point in romanticising about it - it's a business at the end of the day. If the XF is the shape of things to come, then hopefully there's a bright future there. If not... well, let's hope Ford start doing a RWD Mondeo with a nice V8.Zad said:

I agree. Also, the V6 isn't the most efficient configuration going. I love mine though Gassing Station | Ford | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
