Hi,

Started the car this morning, and the airbag light came on, is this a common fault?

Any help much appreciated as always.

Cheers,
Neil

My old st24 estate developed this problem it flashed 3 times if i remember righty which denoted it was seat belt tensioners, but mine in the end was in fact a bad connection on one of the plugs under the passenger seat.
Worth checking yourself first just unplug and back in a couple of times to see if it goes out.

Are these plugs the worse known to man?! My Mrs old Escort did this ffs!! For something that could be called mission critical you'd think they'd be more reliable.

Bought an ST200 a couple of days ago with Airbag light on, hovered it out and in doing so moved the seats and hey presto the light has gone out. Its a pretty common problem on all makes not just Ford with the seat belt pre tentioner connections.

Got it sorted, under the passenger seat a yellow loom had been repaired, read bodged, before. Looks as if it had caught up in the runners and broken, had been soldered, good job, but had not had heat shrink used on the joints, basically the insulation tape had split/ torn allowing the 2 wired to touch, hence the light flashing.
Re cut, re-soldered using h/duty Raychem (Aviation quality) heat shrink, over the soldered joints, and over the whole repair, proper job!
I would recommend dis-connecting the battery, and waiting 1/4 hr or so, before doing any A/ bag investigations,
Thanks to every-one who offered help,
Cheers,
Fab.
