Ok I have done a search and seen many threads about Capris but just wondered what your thoughts were.

I have seen a mk111 2.0 Capri (manual) locally which has been stored in a dry garage. The owner has asked me to give him an indication of the cars worth, and I may well be interested.

Here are the brief details.

For Capri (1979 I think) 2.0 LS, Red, ???miles, bodywork reasonable cannot see any rot, a few bubbles here and there and the paintwork has faded (T-Cut!) The Interior is the traditional tartan red/orange and black the front drivers seat has unfortunately had ink spilt on it and the rear has a few holes on the top.

I believe the car has been started and moved regularly but the gearbox needs attention. Tickover price for box (2ndhand) is £60

So how much do you think it is worth, provided there is no rot, engine runs without fault and apart from the above is ok.

ALSO

Are there any recommended active forums for Capri owners?

Does it have m.o.t and tax? Does it look like a project? Good 2.8's go for £1200 without m.o.t

if its a sunroof free shell (getting hard to find) with very little rust thats gotta be worth 500-1000 depending on what minor bodywork needs doing id have thought

have a gander at ebay and the ads on here, will give you a better idea of value

capris are still pretty bargain basement, but values are rising slowly, it will never get to the crazy state of escort mk2 prices thankfully (as a capri fan)

It has no MOT or TAX, it probably hasnt been on the road for some time now.

I know 2.8 and 3.0 Capris are worth a lot more. So would you say £250 for a 2.0 taking into consideration all the facts.

Cannot remember whether it has a sunroof or not, I think it does.

Hmmmmm i cant really say without looking but from what you are saying it sounds like a bargain for that price a great base for a rolling resto. One question the tartan seats are they the sporty non recaro types? If so its they are extremely rare in good condition and i'm sure you'll be able to get the ink out.

What I am going to do is get some photos and exact details and post them.

How would I get the ink out?

Good i'll have a look. Household stain remover but test it first. Or heat up some white vinegar and spray it on, but also test the material first.

Ok here are the photos as promises, sorry about the quality.

The Car is a 1977 2.0 S, as you can see she needs some work. What are your thoughts on price and.....do you think it will be a money pit?

I say get it! It really depends on what you want? It doesnt look rotten at all only the arches which look like they have been done before. Personally i'd buy it. How much does he want for it?

Hello again, had another look, looks like you could do the rolling resto on it, it will need a respray at some point as when red goes that colour and you polish it back and get it shining again, as soon as you wash it or it rains it goes that dull pink again.

A friend of mine had a lairy 2.1 a few years ago, i borrowed it a couple of times what a weapon, theres that route to go if you wanted to. I have piccies of it somewhere, basically a lowered 2.0s with 7 x 13's. A great look.

Looks good..relatively...I`ve seen far worse. I bet with a proper clean up she will look ...a million dollors...(..read +500 sheets.) biggrin

Bodywork looks good...I`d, if your picky..do the wheelarches & treat her to a cheap as poss respray...lots of options under the hood...e.g If the engine is busted or plain worn..2.0 Sierra engines are mega cheap used..2.8 lumps are around 120 quid for a good usable lump...biggrin
The Capri club do replica 15" brookland wheels I think...it would look a different animal altogether with them shod I would think...Capri`s are very satisfying to own...despite the dated image, a 2.8i,, in particular, still turns heads...thumbup

Quote Morgan Freeman in Bruce Almighty..
There`s nothing so dirty that it can`t be just cleaned right up....smile

He has asked me what its worth?

Having looked on Ebay - a car that runs with no MOT and requires minor work fetches between £200>£300, however the gearbox will definately need replacing and I dont know what the brakes, tyres are like etc.

Would you say £200 is too little?

I'd say that was a good price for what it is. As for the brakes depends on how long its been standing their fairly easy and cheap to fix. Like i say depends on what you are after, but everything seems to be there and in order. A good base for anyhting. Let me know if you get it?

Will do

So realistically in your eyes what is it worth based on the photos?

I know there may be rot - which I will have to account for

how is the chassis ? this will be the make or break for most people

worst places to rot (and to fix)
rear spring hangars and chassis rails front strut tops and towers (rot up from underneath) A pillar and floorpan at the front of the footwells.

Here you have several panels all meeting together Sill / floorpan / a pillar / back edge of front wing, witha mud / salt trap built in. it can rot really badly before there is any obvious outward sign...

if these are all solid then its got to be worth at least the 400 quoted as is,

as an early 'S' its more desirable than any of the other 4 cylinder capris, but if its rotten in all of those places its not likely to be viable to restore
