Focus problem

Not a biggie but...

Twice now in the last few weeks the speedo has dropped to zero whilst driving, usually on the A1M at about 70mph (if that has any bearing). It did it again yesterday for about 20 seconds and then fine??
No other issues, and it was serviced by Ford last week, they didn'y pick anything up.
what's likely to be causing this..elecrical?

It's a 2001 1.6.

IIRC there are known speedo cluster issues on the focus, dunno what years they are on though

VSS or vehicle speed sensor.

Second vote for the VSS

Common problem but get it sorted sooner rather than later as it's not nice having everything cut out and stall at 70+mph in traffic on a motorway!!!

Could be a cheap fix if the retaining pin comes out alright, pain in the backside and a gearbox off job if it doesn't!
