The better half's car has an issue when driving or stationary, when depressing accelerator pedal lightly all is good, anything other than lightly @ about 3K it appears to hit a wall and won't rev higher (if I take foot off and press lightly it revs fine) Had a quick look and nothing seems disconnected or out of place all liquids are good filter is clear as are intake pipes, anyone have any other things to check before I put it in to a garage? thanks

Does the engine actually rev but power not fed through or does it stop revving when it 'hits the wall'?

TPS?? So it will go OK if you just gently use the throttle bu floor it and it stops? Sounds like TPS(Throttle Posistion Sensor).

Possibly a coil pack starting to die / bad connections?
Fuel filter?
Air flow meter connector?

thanks all for replies, looks like I have a few things extra to check in the morning now, could I change the tps my self or does it need calibration? according to the service book the fuel filter was changed a few thousand miles ago, but suppose it could be sediment in the tank?, had a look arround in the bay before my initial post and the only dodgy connection I found was at the back of the engine block a grounding strip was corroded and just bouncing arround, I have fixed that.

The TPS should be quite easy to fit. In most cars the ECU adapts to the new unit. It would seem to rule out the fuel filter anyway. The general perception is "oh I let the fuel get down so it might have picked up some dirt" whereas the fuel pickup is of course fixed right at the bottom of the tank anyway.
