At the moment the plan is to get 2 cars to each dealer in time for a June launch, thats about as accurate as it is at the moment.
engine specs have been published around the internet, launch sees the mondeo run with 1.6tivct engine from focus but tweaked upto 125ps as well as having the 1.8 lynx diesel.
other engines include 2.2 diesel and 2.3 petrol with transmissions in for the form of a new 6speed auto and the old 5 and 6 speed manuals.
i was told the other day that an st version was planned for a december launch and v6 petrol and diesel options being tested at the moment, I can't comment on the reliability of that info though as i've only heard it in a meeting and not seen the bits in question.

You can spec up the car and even pre-order them.
All i can find is its a June date for availability.

I had a quick look at that, but couldnt find prices. Plus I get a family discount on new fords, so I'm guessing I'll have to wait till they're officially on sale
i drove the new mondeo today !!!!! a ford rep came to our dealership in a tdci titanium 5 door hatch 6 speed , and of course we all took turns having a play, wow what a difference over the old one , i must admit i walked past it at first because it looked nothing like a ford (and i have been reading the literature for a month!!!) the dash is superb with the rev counter far over to the left, speedo far over to the right , full colour satnav /info display in the centre of the dash , really impressive , the rep did mention that the car was a european spec and the uk spec may differ slightly , i have no doubt that this will be a big seller.
Was it the 140 bhp TDCi? If so, how did it go? It seems a pretty big car, and I'm wondering if it'll be enough.
Absolutely over the moon this has come out. I think a nice Ghia with either the 2.0 or 2.2 will do the job just fine. I was just going to replace the Focus with another one although 2.0 next time, but I think the extra bit of tax will be well worth it!! Autocar have some prices now, even though there isn't any sign on the Ford website, and they are saying £19650 for the 2.0 TDCi Ghia which is pretty good value by the looks of it.

This weeks autocar has a test of the 2.5t Mondeo, and its very favourable, here's an online link.

It also seems that Ford are devloping at least one new power source for the new mondeo.

Anyone care to take a guess on the residuals for the new model? For example the list price for an old-shape 1.8LX was £16,195, yet they can be picked up on an '06' plate for £7999 and on a '56' for £8499 from a large car supermarket. I couldn't and wouldn't buy a new one, so might I be lucky in 18 months with a second hand example for similar money or will they command stronger prices?

They say (but don't they always) that they're going to restrict sales to the daily rental fleets. They're also intending to concentrate on the high spec models.
On the previous Mondeo, yes the residuals did look pants against list, but *no-one* pays list. I wonder what % of Mondeo's are sold brand-new, to private buyers? I bet the number is tiny.
Doh! The top spec New Mondeo I can get without contributing to is a 2.0TDCi Zetec. I could get a 2.2 Ghia X in the old one... I take it Arvals discounts on the new one arent quite what they were on the old one yet!!
Oh well Im not due to change till May next year, so hopefully my list will stretch to a 2.2 Ghia by then (assuming the 2.2 is out before then!)

Had a look at one of these in the metal yesterday. The steering wheel looks like its had a playstation controller grafted onto it - 2 d-pad switches and a whole cluster of push buttons. The stalks looked quite well loaded too.
The one I saw was in white, which isn't really the best colour for showing off the car. It looked good though, with some alloys very similar to the Focus ST. When a kitted ST model appears it should look fantastic.

There have started to be reviews on it on tv and in car mags now. The bloke on 5th gear last night seemed to really like it.
The only negative that seems to have come up, is thats it quite a bit bigger than the old one and therefore is quite heavy. I like the sound of the 2.5 turbo petrol, but not the economy and I'm assuming the current (proposed) diesel line up will only be adequetly quick, nothing special?
Anyone driven one yet?

I saw one at the local Ford dealer at the weekend. It was a diesel Ghia. It had a hideous wood-effect centre console. I was seriously disappointed with the quality of the trim and the seats. I also had been led to believe that the colour screen in the dash was standard - it was nowhere to be seeon on this one.
This car was a bluish-silver saloon, which was probably the best looking shape of the Mk III. Ugly wheels, and an ungainly rear end have ruined the Mk IV saloon. The details both inside and out look like highly contrived afterthoughts. I hope the ST is a serious improvement over what I saw. My ST220 feels like a much higher quality car.

I've not been in one yet but the pictures make it look much nicer inside than my 220. The Ghia "wood" is truly awful though!! Titanium X looks very nice, not seen a saloon in the flesh yet and every picture from Ford seems to hide it away which to me makes me think they aren't too happy about it Shame as the Mk3 saloon was the best yet Auto Express have the saloon on test next week. Lets not forget that the Mk3 in non ST form is VERY boring, of what i've seen of standard Mk4's it looks very sporty for what is, at the end of the day, a family car. The ST version should,be something special!!! (if we ever get it?..........................)
