Focus cambelt failure - any chance of help from Ford?
Discussion
Hi all.
A friend of mine recently had the cambelt break on her '52' reg 1.8 Focus after 81K miles.
She had specifically checked before the car's last service, and confirmed with the (independant) garage, that the cambelt was not due to be replaced until the 100k service.
Up until that service, the car had been Ford Main Dealer serviced. The last service, performed according to Ford's scheduled work, was at an Independant because of previous unsatisfactory service by the Main Dealer.
My friend has approached Ford for reimbursement/a contribution towards the repair costs incurred (£1,100) and received a flat refusal.
Any advice that may lead to a more successful outcome would be gratefully received e.g. names/departments to pursue the case with, examples where compensation had been extended in similar circumstances , knowledge of un-official admissions that the publicised 100k mileage limit was overly optimistic, etc.
Thanks.

While I don't know of anybody specifically who has had problems with the Cambelt snapping who I could refer you to your best bet is to phone/write to Ford's Customer Service centre (can't remember the number off the top of my head). The cambelt IS warranted for 100,000 miles however more often than not it's the cambelt tensioner that lets go before this time rather than the belt
The only other thing I could recommend is to register at FFOC and stick up a post there along the lines of this one and see what the folks there say. I know Ford's Customer Services 'hotline' number is on there.

Ford do have a goodwill policy to try and help with these kinds of situation
Call CRC and give them all the details they ask for.
Non ford dealer history isn't going to do you any favors, but at least having some documented history will help.
As mentioned in the previous post belt death can be caused by other factors like tensioner wear or contamination, so hope for the best
