Pen behind focus dash

I have managed to lose what I suspect to be a pen, behind the dash on my focus. I think I let it roll there when i put it on the dash board . I'm not bothered about the pen, just the sliding noise as it moves around when I go round corners. Does anyone know how i can get it out? I'd rather not have to remove the dash, but I'm not sure what else I can do.

from the day I picked up my mondeo I have had the same issue - will watch this thread just incase someone has any idea

How the hell do you loose a pen in the dash?! What orrifice(oohh err!!) did it go down?!

I have to assume it went down a defroster vent. If so the heater ducting is usually pretty easy to take apart (just hard to get to) so you can either disassemble the ducting or you could try reaching down the vent with a flexible claw tool.

I have managed to retrieve the pen at last. I used a long skewer and bent it and pushed the pen further towards the front of the car, and then prised it up and just picked it out.

It had rolled into a small gap where the dash meets the wind screen, and the dash over hangs the gap a bit, and the pen was under that, hence the difficult removal.

thanks for that-i'll have to make sure i don't leave anything on the dash-seems a poor design that?
