Hi all,

Bit of a problem in my opinion on wifeys KA, I think it's terribly asthmatic, it'll rev ok with no load, but ask it to pull along the road and it's sluggish at best. It will eventually top a ton, but it takes eons to get there.......
The fuel consumption is diabolical too, seldom over 35mpg, mostly below 30...

SWMBO is a careful slowish driver, so why the lousy mpg? it gets taken on 15mile runs every other day to work, but it escapes me as to why it's so chronic.

03 plate 12k miles, so not exactly on it's last legs.

TIA

Kevin

Could be a sensor failure. Coolant sensor, cat/lambda sensor etc. Ideally you need to get a garage with a code reader to see if it has any stored faults in the ECU.

I'd agree with getting it's mind read.

something as daft as a camshaft position sensor could be a likely cause of excessive fuel consumption as it'll cause all the injectors to fire at the same time instead of in firing sequence.

There must be a problem! This morning my duratec hit 116 leptons, so yours cannot be too healthy.

Throttle position sensor or mass air flow. Both tell the ECU what stage of the map to read the timing/fuel amount from.

For a better explanation:-

Could almost definatly mean poor running under load as the engine could be fuelling too much/little.

Lamda is also a possibility, filled up at tescos?

Not at all, well it was indicated on the speedo! Maybe it's way out, but it was down a fairly steep bit of dual carriageway.

Fairy muff - got to say that's bold! I give up with mine if it gets to 3 figures (69.9mph officer), it's just not up to that kind of speed. Things like tyres and brakes etc. Could all go bang at any minute!

I did follow one recently that did a steady 3 figures (about 70.1mph officer) for 20 mins on the A1. Was amazed - although it was a hire car, and they always go faster.

I've got an '03 Duratec Ka with 19k on the clock and it runs perfectly, even though it still takes a while to get to the tonne! I took it on a 200 mile trip to Portsmouth in the summer and it averaged 50mpg and that wasn't driven that carefully!! In conclusion, something's not quite right with the aforementioned Ka!
