Hi i was driving along the road when the engine just cut out.I pulled over and tried to start the engine.the engine turned over and the fuel was getting there ok .I have heard theres a few things that could be wrong with the car.I was just wondering if there was one thing more than another what it could be .Its a 1.4 engine
Many thanks

If the fuel pump is running, that means the signal from the crank sensor is getting through.......so

get hold of a noid light plug it into the coil pack plug (3 pin plug, so keep one terminal of the noid in the center pin and reverse the connection)and see if it flashes when cranking.

if it flashes, the coil pack is being switched and the coil pack is probably defective.
if it's not flashing you need to trace the fault back through the wiring and edis

I thought on cranking the fuel pump ran all the time anyway? I'm not sure where the crank sensor is on these engines, but on several Ford engines it is near the oil filter and is prone to accidental damage when the oil filter is changed. As I know to my cost...

there should be a brief pump run as the ignition goes on, then it won't run again until the crank sensor outputs a signal.
The crank sensors signal is passed from the EEC IV module to the EDIS (either internal or external from EEC IV)where it's used to detemine crank angle.
