Hi there, was wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I have a 02 Mondeo Tddi. Its done 66000 miles, and I have serviced since buying it, ie all filters done. It seems to have an intermittant misfire @ idle. If I drive the car around town, and keep the revs low ( driving miss daisy style ), it develops a misfire. Give it a bootfull in first and second and it sorts itself out. Also if I am driving in traffic, and it gets to about 1700-1800 rpm it starts jerking, as if I am going on and of the throttle. It is more noticeable in the lower gears, but you can sometimes feel it in 5th too. Sometimes on warm start up, the engine starts but runs at low RPM, as if it is flooded....., it doesn't do it all the time, maybe 1 in 20 strats. Don't think there is any excessive smoke from the exhaust. I am a ex Jaguar tech, so know my way aound this engine. I have taken off the EGR valve and cleaned it out, as I see a few posts about these cauing problems. Any ideas greatly appreciated. I kinda have a feeling it might be an injector sticking.

I mentioned this to my Dad who has a new Transit 06, and his does the same.... !!!

Can you give any more details on the low revs?

Have you had the car checked to see if there are any fault codes or later software calibrations available?

EGR vavles have been known to cause concern as they can stick open, but it generally has a smokey side effect.

What fuel do you run it on? They really don't like bio diesel

I tend to use Shell or ESSO Diesel, not sure if it's a Bio or not, I will check. Which is best for these.

The low revs..... it starts and runs probably about 400-500 rpm, then picks up, I don't use the throttle, just let it pick itself up.
There is no smoke ( EGR sticking ) when I removed it, I could lift the flap off of it's seat with a thin screwdriver, So I managed to clean to seating area to some extent.

Sorry forgot to add, don't have access to any code reading equipment, but have never had any warning lights flash or anything.

you sure it's a Tddi?

there is an issue on tdci vehicles where the system doesn't reach the injector latch valves and won't rev.
there is also a protection stratergy built in to the fuel system controls on both tddi and tdci which will cut the fueling if the revs don't rise above a set value because of risk of damage to the flywheel.
