Hi all!

We looking to spend around £3/£3500 at a push on a car for my girlfriend, and I think that a Focus is going to be a good option. IS there anything we need to look out for when buying? I'm thinking a 1.6 or 1.8, although the 1.8 maybe a little thursty on fuel?

Also, how does the Zetec model differ from the other models that don't seem to have the word 'Zetec' in the ad? Outside of some nice alloys and what looks to be an overal more sporty look - what more do you get?

Sorry, I know all about VW's, but have never owned a Ford!!

P.S, if anyone has a Focus for sale with less than 70k miles and full service history please drop me an e-mail.

James.

Zetec is confusingly the name of the engine used in many Focii, as well as a trim level.

From a trim point of view, it's supposed to be a bit more "sporty" than others and fits somewhere between Ghia (top of the range) and LX; a sort of middling spec level.

As for having a Focus for sale, YHM!

Zetec is a good spec. I had a 1.8 Zetec 3 door. Lovely car. Make sure you get one with the climate pack with heated front screen, heated elcetric mirrors and air-con. Dash looks miles better with the silver accents of the Zetec as opposed to the black in the LX or wood in the Ghia.

I reckon the improvement in performance is worth going for the 1.8 even if the fuel consumption is a bit worse.

I uesed to average around 350miles to a 45litre fill. So not bad I didn't think.

Very nice handling car, for chucking around a country lane, better than my mk2 - can't remember if the mk1 Zetec had uprated suspension over the rest of the range.

I had mine from 17k to 107k with nothing other than routine maintenance, and a gearbox return spring.

Definitely the best place to put your money for that sort of car.

HTH.
