Hi all,

I have a 02 plate Ka Sytle with the 1.3 Endura lump in it.

I want to get a bit more from it in performance and handling.

Is there anything i can do to pep it up a little?

I dont want to spend a fortune as i have another Ford project going on with a few mates (Pop with 2litre pinto with turbo) but i would like to speed proceedings up a bit.

Hmmmm there does seem to be more information for modding the Endura engine than for the better and newer Duratec!

If your going to keep the engine and don`t want to throw loads of cash at it, 1st steps are K & N filter or similar, either replacement panel filter or cold air induction kit, the later being best and the dearest. Secondly replacement free flow manifold and system, preferrably with cat replacement pipe.
These two steps will instantly give you approx 10-15% more power with greater throttle response. It will also sound totally different as well with induction roar from the filter and a throaty exhaust note.
When your bored with that, maybe fit a high lift cam shaft which will add another 10-15% again. smokin

I disagree.

When I had a fiesta 1300 endura, I spoke to loads of pepole about increasing the performance. Their advise was to swap the engine as the 1300 is one of the worst engines for tuning potential. Do rember that it shares the same basic block with that used in the Ford Anglia!

There used to be the option of buying parts for the Ka endura from Ford Racing, including bespoke throttle body, chip, cam lsd, suspension etc but even if this is still available it is likely to be uber expensive.

Other than that there aint much you can do to the Endura IMO.

Induction kit will give you next to no power increase (they rarely do anyway) and on my Endura, the heat soke was so bad the car felt even more sluggish!

Likewise, a manifold will do little other than improve response. An exhaust will only maker it louder.

A cam will give you a very slight increase (only with a chip/remap) but for the outlay involved I cant see how its worth it.

you'r best bet I would have thought would be to chuck in a 1600 duratec as they're cheap to buy 2nd hand and should slot in ok with the ecu and assoc. wiring from a Sportka.

ETA: youre well catered for in the suspension dept however. A set of springs dampers and will sharpen up the ride/handling no end.

maybe that's what you should concentrate on at this stage? then look to getting a more powerful car at a later date.

just my 2penneth of course.

Yes me and my mate are building a 50's ford sit up and bed pop with a pinto and 5 speed.

Was going to go the hot rod route as thats where my heart lays but we decided to go track style to be a bit different. Getting the parts together now.

The beardmore bros minor hillclimb car is our inspiation. Have a look here:www.beardmorebros.co.uk/website%20pages/new_project.htm

Ours wont be as good as that, but we can all hope!

scratchchin Thats all very well and good, but I believe flying toilet was trying to keep finances and labour time to a minimum i.e. bolt ons for little money.

Any engine will benefit from the mods I have described regardless of the poor tuning potential of any engine. it may not turn it into a Sport Ka, but will certainly incease the performance and sound better, AIMHO of course. smokin
