Hi, I've been offered a G reg (1989/90) Sierra 4X4 and I'm going to look at it early next week. Nothing strange so far - here's the thing - it's been sitting in a 'garage/collection' for the last eight years and only has 10k on the clock!! Seller says it is in mint condition.

Apart from the usual hoses, brakes and oil/water checks etc, what should I be looking for - bearing in mind the car is probably SORN and no test drive is likely. Also, how do you price up a car like this - I've trawled the classifieds and have found nothing comparable (- no surprise there then!) Any helpful advice would be welcomed.

I've been told it's a V6 so 2.8 or 2.9 - waiting for a phone call to go and view!

If it's been sitting for 8 years there may be quite a bit needs doing to it before you even try and start/drive it.

Obvious things will be tyres perishing and flat spots, petrol will have gone off, the oil, coolant and brake fluids will likely need changing too. Anything rubber may have gone hard through lack of use and being sat in the same position for a long time, so all hoses, gaitors and oil seals will need to be inspected closely, any belts will need changing too.

All of this is of course based on you buying the car to use.

The one that finished mine off was the front uv joint on the prop from transfer box back to front diff, it dries out over time as its directly above exhaust, if yours has been stood it may be ok but get it checkedevery 20k repacking with grease and new seals is cheap compared to damage that results.

Mine exploded doing 65 - bent exhaust, dented underfloor in footwell, bust front diff and smashed the gearbox bellhousing - quick tip if you see a bellhousing or front diff buy em you'll be able to turn em round if you dont need em! Diff's are used by grasstrackers so there rockinghorse!!

It would have been nice to put all your advice to good use - but the guy selling the car was a muppet who never rang back. Must just like winding up other people!! Anyway - thanks for the tips, much appreciated.
