Couldn't see a question other than the title, but guess you are looking for what engine sizes were available?

The Puma was avaiable with: 1.4, 1.6 & 1.7 (FRP 1.7 had more power than Std 1.7)

Have a look on www.pumapeople.com for more info

Sums it up.

1.4 not worth the effort.
1.6 a nice revvy lump, essentially the car is a Fiesta Zetec-S in a party frock.
1.7 is the most powerful, but not really any sweeter than the 1.6.

FRP is a modern classic.

If you knew anything about Puma's you would know that they were not built for speed but handling.

1.4 - 90Bhp and quick for a 1.4
1.6 - 103Bhp same as old style Fiesta Zetec S
1.7 - 125Bhp
FRP - 155bhp (still a 1.7 just tuned)

I agree. Drove a Puma 1.7 and found it to be a great chassis, very fun to chuck around, and maybe just quick-enough for twisty stuff. Just couldn't deal with the Fiesta-legacy driving position, the terrible rear-vis, or the Elise-sized boot. And then I drove a 'teg, and the rest was history...

Agreed on the boot size, once you got past the awkward sized opening it was surprisingly spacious. At one point I had (seats down) 2 labradors and 2 peoples travelling kit.

Nah, don't be silly. Wife owns a Zetec-S (Puma-donor style) Fiesta and we've test-driven a Fiesta ST. And while the ST isn't exceptionally endowed, the Puma boot looked positively limited. I may have been exaggerating with the Elise comment, but I'd venture my S2000 has as much, before you fold the Puma seats.

I fit a pram in the boot of my Puma. I'd struggle to get the (detachable) wheels in an Elise boot. The boot is big and deep - that said it has a fairly high sill and a slightly awkward opening. If you pack using soft bags you can fit loads in. It easily supports the need of my small family (Missus + 1x 19month old...)

Some total b*llocks being spouted on here. rolleyes
Guess it is a case of people without ownership experience being poorly oppiniated.

The boots not bad, its certainly not tiny but the opening is awkward and the hatch drops water into it if its wet when you open it. I've got the 1.6, never tried the others, cant imagine the 1.4 being too terrible though. Strangley the 1.6 makes quite a nice noise inside the cabin vroom vroom

I was pearing at some pumas on autotrader today, I came across one, local to me but i noticed that it has a nasty plastic gear knob in place of the nice ally ball, was this a ford cost cutter or was it someting fitted to the smaller engined cars at some point?

EEEKK! I love my shiny ball! theres usually plenty on ebay though. No idea if they were replaced by plastic, i doubt it though, maybe they got fed up with getting a frozen hand on cold mornings.

Sorry, I didn't know ownership was a prerequisite to an opinion on a topic? If someone believes a boot is small, then for them it is.

You may have a different view, but it doesn't mean your view is right.

Thats ok then, I wondered if I was looking at a 1.4 or something, It wouldnt be a deal breaker, but it's nice to confirm what you are looking at.

The difference is to comment on something as specific as a boot size you really need to have experience of the car. Like when people spout that TVR's won't stay running for 5 minutes, its total bollox. You can comment on a cars looks easily but not on how it performs day to day tasks. Yes the Puma boot looks small and it seems impractical but once you put stuff into it you see how big it actually is. Another example - a lot of people say the rear seats are useless, they're actually ok for a small coupe once you get into them.

The Puma boot is huge...

...compared to a VXT boxedin

Seriously, it's not a bad size at all, I've had my mountain bike in the back (with the rear seats folded down obviously), it's certainly much better than a lot of superminis I've seen.

Certainly the boot on my sons Puma is bigger than the one on my old Fiesta 1.6Si and is immense compared to my Noble
