Any ideas what could cause a slight power loss on a 97 Fiesta with a 1.3 Endura unit?

Don't notice a thing around town but on m/ways I had foot to the floor but couldn't pass 60mph. I do at least two m/way journeys a week on the same route so I normally know which bits I need more gas etc for but this time I definitely noticed less power. Thing is, it cleared up after a bit and it was fine again...

Someone's mentioned the fuel filter... Any other suggestions?

How is the fuel consumption? Higher than usual, lower, or about the same? Some possibilities are: A blockage in the air filter (take the cover off and have a look), catalyst that is breaking up (if you can get at it, tap it with a screwdriver, if it rattles then it's on the way out). It could even be a stretched throttle cable! With the engine off, get someone to press the throttle pedal hard to the floor, that should pull the throttle lever all the way back. It is probably worthwhile making sure that the plug leads are securely in place too. Has the oil and filter been changed fairly recently?

Fuel consumption slightly higher than norm on the m/way journey: I put this down to me having to be more heavy footed due to the power loss.

Hadn't thought of the air filter I'll have a look...

Oil and filter I replace every year, it was last done in June and has covered about 3000 miles since then...

Get a K&N K57i induction kit for you MK4, I have a similar car to yours and it makes a lot of difference, well worth £60.

I had another idea about this but forgot to mention it. Sticking brakes. Either the handbrake that has been over-adjusted or possibly a disc caliper that is sticking and holding the brake slightly on all the time.
