Hi folks,

I have just put a deposit down on an FRS and seem to have picked up a minter. The Car comes with a two year warranty for piesce of mind, but I am slightly concerend about the bite point of the clutch as it seems to be way too high. I am having this checked by the garage (non-Ford) as I speak before I pick the car up on Friday, but would appreciate to hear some of your thoughts.

The car is a 53 plate, has done 24k and has had 2 previous owners.

Is a high bite point normal or should I demand a new clutch etc?

Ta for your help

ETA: I am prepared to make allowances from the fact that the car is new to me and that the clutch doesn't appear to slip.

Ford's of old have tended to have a high biting point, you can wind it in a bit using an allen key.

Podie Dear Sir,

Would you happen to know the whereabouts of this allen key bolt?

It's located on the pedal itself... above the pedal rubber / face

The pedal should be at the same height as the others... if it's not it may suggest clutch wear.

One of my Escorts had this, so I reset it... needed a clutch about 15k later.

I'm not saying this is / will be the case, but I'd do some more investigation.

The biting point may be slightly higher than average on the FRS, but going on mine and the various others I've driven it shouldn't be excessively high.

The biting point is reasonably high on the FRS, it caught me out a bit when I first drove it but you soon adjust to it.
Mine's nearly at 35k and no issues with clutch as yet he says franticly clutching his wooden desk.

Hi im new to the site i have a frs too and have just replaced the clutch at 46k (work in a garage so saved labour costs) still cost best part of £400 though as as you say its a ap unit and therefore lots of money but that price did include changing the hydraulic release bearing, although it was ok didnt wanna have to take the gearbox out again. Biting point is still quite high but no worse than other focus ive driven.

Clutch biting point on RS is high by default.

Had mine replaced at 40k under warranty and still high even when just fitted, also heard others saying the same thing

Went to garage for an issue, they took it for a test drive, must have ragged it as loads of petrol gone for minimum miles and when I jumped back in it, I went to pull away and it just screetched

Anyway, straight back in the dealership, all done under warranty, in last week of it as well !!!

The focus' use a hydraulic clutch system so if the bitting point is really high ie less than an inch from th top of the pedal then have a new one fitted because the pedal hight isnt adjustable
