my car went in to the dealer a couple of months back, during which they uploaded a new version of their ecu map.

Since they did this I have lost probably 4 mpgs on average. a run to london and back where I was doing 80 - 85 on the motorway but the speed limits elsewhere, I averaged about 44 mpg where previously the same run at similar speeds managed around 48.
In truth I struggle with the economy especially whilst the engine is not up to running temperature, at which point he figures are rubbish. it seems to take forever to warm up (which is why it went into the dealer in the first place), and even once up to running temp it doesnt seem to get the best fuel economy for a further 10 to 15 mins of driving after this, at which point the figures suddenly start creeping up for no apparent reason.
It also seems that when cruising on the motoroway at 75 ish, it returns better mpgs in 5th than it does in 6th. meaning 6th gear is pretty bloody pointless.

apart from the 5th gear / 6th gear issue, this definately all came about after they applied their remap. I went into ford a few weeks after and asked them to upload the old map as I wasnt happy with the new one. They said they cant do it without a lot of hassle, and to start keeping a log of the economy readings and the amount of fuel Im using. (in other words piss off).

This has annoyed me. you dont buy a desiel to get under 45 mpgs on runs and. Unless I drive like a 70 year old everywhere and never overtake, or use the turbo, 45mpg or so seems to be my average economy in general now. To be fair there is a fair bit of stop start and not many long journeys, but even so this is rubbish in my opinion.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this remap and noticed the same?

OK to get the thread rolling.. Diesels always take much longer to get up to temperature, it's one of those things that they really should tell you when you buy one, especially in England!

45 MPG overall average is rubbish? I think it's good, about what I'd expect. It's a 2.0 not a 1.4. While many diesel fan boys claim they get silly figures like 63 MPG average I think it's a load of old balls and 45 is a pretty good figure over a number of journeys, especially if you know what the turbo is and how to use it!

Be happy, some of us have only got them old cars with their 30 MPG petrols or 50 MPG diesels, but which only develop 47 bhp...

We notice the MPG falls in cold weather on the Skoda...

I've noticed I'm only getting just over 40mpg average on this tank which is a bit lower than normal... Must be driving harder than usual! Mines only the 1.6 TDCi and it will genuinely average high 50's on a tank when driven half sensibly and mid 60's if you pootle about.

A colleague has the Volvo V50 with the 2.0 engine you've got and he normally only gets low 40's on average.

Paul.

ok thanks guys. The remap did coincide roughly with whem the weather turned much colder. Maybe that's it.
This morning it did pretty well, but then it was also 13 degrees.
