Hi

I have noticed over the last few days my car has developed a misfire at low revs (1500 - 2500) in 3rd & 4th gears, usually when you put your foot down to go up a hill etc.. It seems to be getting worse, the car is not due a service until end of march 07.

2000 "W" 2.0 Zetec - 63000 miles

Any ideas?

Also i cannot find my service book & need to know if the timing belt is due / overdue?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Almost 100% sure its the Coil Pack, easy DIY job, approx £60 for Coil pack, may aswell do the leads and Plugs why you are at it.

Happy Xmas!

Edite dto add, Cambelt is due around the 60,000 to 80,000 depending on what service book you look at.

We've solved misfires on Dad's mondeo in the past with plugs & leads - the plugs are supposed to last for 120k but that seems to be way off.

Just had same prob on my 2 Litre Focus, was the coil that failed, only cost me £25 from local independant car spares place. Drove mine around for a while whist faulty and it melted the cat which then cost me another £160 to sort, my advice is to do it sooner rather than later.

As i'm a bit of a cheap skate i tried the plugs and air filter before taking it to the main stealer, they spend just over a week on it before telling me it was going to cost £700 to fix, paid them £70 diagnostics and sorted it my-self for about £185.

Finally got round to sorting the car this week (been skint after christmas etc..).

The car had a full service (plugs etc) & the misfire has gone. Car runs a hell of a lot better now!

Cheers,

Mike

The misfire has returned on my Focus, it initially disappeared in March when i had a full service done, but now its back worse than ever!

I guess it is the coil pack?

Its quite likely,i would check for track marks on the plugs too in case you have faulty leads.

Had it on mine years ago. plugs had been changed at service a few weeks before, was adviced it was the coil pack over the phone. A friend had a spare set of leads so I thought I would try these first, changed them and it sorted it, no more problems from then on till I traded the car in a year later...
