Hi

A couple of weeks ago, the buttons on my CD player stopped working - I have a Ford Fiesta Freestyle 02 plate, and the CD player is the Ford standard for that model, which is CD 6000 RDS.

Basically, every single button, except for the on and off switch (also doubling at the volume knob) is not functioning. I have a CD in there which is continually playing (unless I turn the player off) but I can't eject it, skip tracks, turn the radio on and so on.

Does anyone have any ideas? I really can't afford to take it to the Ford garage, our local one seems to charge through the nose for even the simplist job, so if there's anything I can try before having to splash out on a mechanic, please let me know. Two weeks of the same CD, even though it's a fantastic one, is getting a bit too much!

Thanks,

LaurenH

Thanks Podie, I'll give that a go.

I did wonder whether itthis might be the problem, but the CD player does switch on and play the CD when I insert it, so I figured that probably wasn't the cause. Having said that, I do just chuck the panel in my glovebox when I park up, so I'm sure there is some dust or debris on it that I haven't noticed.

Had similar issues in the past with the various Ford's I've owned.

If it doesn't solve it, remove the unit, unplug it, the put it all back together (make sure you have the radio code before doing this!!!).

If that doesn't sort it, it'll be cheaper to buy a replacement stereo than get it fixed through Ford, or get a replacement Ford one.

If cleaning the contacts on the security panel doesn't work pull the set out of the dash.

Disconnect the looms from the back of the set and then press the power button off and on 4 or 5 times and then reconnect the leads, input the code and all is usually well.

The sets get a build up of static which causes confusion

Cool, I'll give this a go tonight as I need to buy those rod things to get the stereo out. Thanks everyone for your ideas, fingers crossed!

Halfords should sell them for ~ £5.

Make sure you have the code for the stereo BEFORE you pull it out...
