Hi All,

I am thinking of getting myself a trackday toy and having previously owned a Puma I thought it might just fit the bill (after ripping out any unnecessary bulk).

Have any of you guys had track experience in a Puma and how did it cope?

Also, I will be looking at the cheapest end of the market and therefore the high mileage cars. What are the main areas to look out for when buying a high mile Puma (cambelt changes etc.)

Thanks very much for your advice.

If you are going to Track Day it..... I'd recommend the one you buy has had a recent clutch, addition to Cam and auxiliary belts.

Long term an uprated Helix clutch might be the way to go as the clutch isn't the Puma's strong point.

Thanks. Do you happen to know the point at which the Cam belt needs changing?

80k miles or 5 years (down from 100k and 10 years that Ford originally set)

biggest problem is not using the corect grade of oil due to the nikasil (sp?) coatings on the bores , old deaar has a puma with 80+k on the clock and it loves a good thrahing every now and again ... car not me mother ...yikes

Interesting choice emenel, I bought a mk1 MR2 for trackdays before moving up to a VXT earlier this year. The MR2 was sold last week, and just today I've bought... a Puma!

The MR2 was a great little car on track, handles very nicely, lovely balance and bags of fun. Mine was ultra-reliable too, and never used any oil. Can't recommend them highly enough, the only problem is the perennial rust issue, especially the rear arches.

My new Puma will be a second car, so won't ever see track use. My initial impression of the 2 (and they're such different cars) is that the MR2 is a touch faster in a straight line.

Love the Exige by the way, looks cool . I may be changing to an S2 next year...

I'm hoping to track the Exige in the not too distant future but it's a bit shiny and new at the moment.

I've never done any track driving before (experience day at Thruxton excluded) and I plan to run a less expensive car for a years worth of tracking to gain some experience, in the hope that I don't kill myself first time out in the Exige.

Thanks Digital. Good luck with the Puma and your VXT which looks fantastic in your profile.
