Hi, Just thought i would post up as i am considering seriously purchasing an Escort Cosworth.
I currently have a '90 Corvette, and previously TVR's.

What are the main things i should be aware of, what questions do i ask? I tried the 'search' function, which isn't working at the moment.

My budget will be approx 15-17 k

Or would a mint low mile 3 door be preferable??

TIA thumbup

That sort of budget should get you the top-end of what's on offer. Do you want something totally standard or modded? The chaps at www.passionford.com might be able to give you a decent buying guide.

Mint and low mile should be possible with your budget (depending on your definition of 'low-mile' for a 9-14 year old car).

For a 3 door, perhaps an RS500 is in order? (not sure if they fall in your budget though)

That is debatable, from some of the accounts I've read on www.passionford.com

I have also been thinking along the lines of Sierra Cossie or Sapphire cossie but some people warn of expensive running figures ?? I thought they would be pretty bullet proof, what sort of things go wrong with them ??

The biggest problem with any Cossie is the previous owner(s) - if he/she/they have mucked around chipping the car, for example, the engine won't last. If you find 1 that hasn't been mucked about with, joy-ridden or crashed they are indeed fairly bullet proof. That said don't start thinking that the electrics are up to par with a car built in Japan. My Escort Cosworth recently need a specialist & 5 days to trace why the radio no longer worked. The solution was that a wire in the sunroof was shorting out. The clock still doesn't show the outside temp & the headlamp washers gave up well before I bought the car.

You should pick up a nice example with the budget you have, you'll also be able to pick up a nice RS500 and a mint low mileage 3dr
The only real problem with a Cosworth is the engine so either find a car the has had the engine rebuilt or a low mile example

I have over 100,000 miles on my motor. Perhaps it's just the modified 1s that self-destruct.
