03' 2.0 Zetec flatspot
Discussion
Hi
My 2.0 Focus has seemed down on power for a while so last week i tried a tank of Shell VPower, although this has resulted in a small improvement it has highlighted a very noticable flatspot between 3000 and 3200 rpm.
Has anyone else had any experience of this or does anyone know what could be causing this. (Car is only 3 months out of manufacturers warrenty, typical!)
Regards
Chris

Hi
I have i 2001 2.0L Zetec.
Ahh the zetec blip!!!!
The flat spot you talking about is on all standard zetec engines. If you put the car on the dyno it is soo ovious where it is!!!!
The best way to get rid of it would be to put a chip or Bluefin ahndset on the car, to adjust all the settings
But don't worry it is perfectly normal

Hi zippy144
Thanks for the reply, i've had the car for 2 years and 30k miles and it seems to have got a bit more noticable recently, may be something to do with the test drive in the Focus ST.
Have you got the bluefin?, was considering one a while back and want to know what sort of effect they have in the real-world. Will i notce a diffence throughout the rev-range or just top end/bottom end?

Hi
As far as i understand it makes the rev better, it changes all the fueling etc.
It will work better in combination with a performance exhaust. But the great thing is you can revert the back to standard when needed...
Log onto www.ffoc.co.uk they are some really usefull stuff on there...
I have decided to go down the engine swap route to get more power!!!

What do you have in mind, i saw a ST170 Ebgine complete with 6 speed box on here fo £600 a few weeks ago, claimed to have only done 17k. I was seriously tempted, i know it's only an extra 40bhp but could have sold my old stuff on for similar money and have a great base to start looking for more power.
Think i'll get some new plugs and maybe a K&N induction kit and see how i get on.

Hi
It either going one of 2 directions
1- Keep my currant car and put a RS engine/gear box and tune to about 300hp FWD...
or
2- Sell car and get a 400bhp RWD cossie focus track/road car from A1 Rally sport
Still haven't decided but it all comes down to how much money i can raise for the project!!!!!

Providing funds allow you must go for option 2, what sort of money are they going for? Not that i'm in the position to think about it myself.
