Help needed - this is driving me nuts!

I recently picked up an RS that was on my company's fleet (we lease cars) The car has full history and is 90% right, scratch here and dent there which is an easy fix.

Having in my youth worked on Fords as a mechanic (not technician as they are now called) i have noticed a knocking on the N/S/F area. The car has been put on a ramp and link arms, ball joints etc look fine - the question is have a missed something??

Cheers
Kurt

I know it sounds obvious, but have you checked the spring is intact? I believe Ford had a bad batch of suspension springs and some have broken near the end.

Hi,

Just had a qick look at the spring and it looks ok. Also the car doesn't lean, so I can assume it's fine.

What is really bugging me is that it is a obvious noise which is there all the time. So I was hoping to find something easily! its never the case is it!

If the knocking noise occurs at low speeds i.e. parking manouvres etc it is probably a faulty Sachs damper. This has been a fairly common fault on FRS's which still have the original dampers fitted - including mine.

Worn bushes on the base of the intercooler mounting , VERY common problem , a knocking will be apparent ALL the time if this is the case , i also had the damper problem , this just makes the car handle awful not so much rattle.

Paul
