Handbrake adjustment?
Discussion
Didn't know if this should be in " Suspension & Brakes
" so I've put a link there rather than double posting.
1999 2.0l LX estate (drums at the back)
MOT advisory is the handbrake is on the limit of its travel. I know its performance is also down as it doesn't hold so well on the drive (when it used to). The Haynes book of fables says its auto adjusting (clock spring in the handle) If there are no other adjusters does this mean the shoes are worn and need replacement?

Mondeo had a self adjusting handbrake system which didn't actually work that well
I'd suggest....if it hasn't already be done.....remove the drums and click out the adjusters until the drum just about fits back on.
then drive the car and give it around 20 emergency stops (in a safe place) from about 20 MPH to settle in the brakes
the handbrake cable adjusting ratchet should reset the primary cable adjustment and the lever should feel a bit better now.
