I would like to add a tachometer on my 1993 escort with 1.4 CFI. How do i wire it up?

can i install a dashboard with tachometer from breaker yard if my escort has wiring loom to plug it in?

Its for my girlfriend who will be driving this car and she hasnt got a sense of foot control on gas/clutch.

Installing a different dashboard isn't as much fun as it sounds, you might however be able to get a gauge pack with a factory tach from a wreckers which would be easier. Your Escort more than likely has the wiring for a tach.

An aftermarket tach like a Sun pro would be the easiest of all, they normally only have 4 wires to connect. 1- goes to ground, 2- goes to battery positive, 3- gets spliced into an instrument pack lighting wire so that when the other gauge lights turn on so will the tach light, 4- goes to the tach signal wire or post.

If your '93' has a distributor then the 4th wire goes to the coil negative post. If your car is distributor-less then you will have to find out what the tach signal pin on the ECM is and splice it into that wire or if you can access a wiring schematic for your year and model and do determine that your car is wired for the factory tach then use that connector for your tach signal.

Hope this is easy to understand..
