I have recently bought a new focus 2.0 130Ps diesel. I have had focui before and thought nothing of investing in another. However within the first week the vehicle broke down three times, each time with an 'Engine system fault' message on the dash.

Each time this was either on the motorway at speed and immediately gave me restricted performance, or was at a car park and wouldn't move easily.

The dealers tried to fix the vehicle each time and after a month or so of trying they seemed to get to the bottom of it by replacing the instrument pack.

Until two weeks ago. The vehicle then did it again three times in the space of ten miles or so. Back to the dealers. They again tried to fix it and went through all the niceties, but after changing the throttle pedal and assuring me it was OK, it failed again within a day (twice).

The vehicle is back in the dealers again now and I have a 1.nothing KA which has no aircon in the hottest week of the year - NOT AMUSED.

Has anybody any expericne in returning vehicles. I am not happy with this car, it doesn't work reliably. The dealer cannot seem to fix it, despite changing parts. I seem to be paying Focus money for a bog standard KA plus inconvienience.

Total trips to dealer so far = 6 (watch this space)

I've got a Focus 2.0 Diesel estate (05 reg bought second hand in May), already added 6k miles to the clock and it runs like a dream.

Either your Ford Dealer is incompetent or you've just been handed a duff car. Not an expert or anything, but if it really is a brand spanking new car, then surely they should consider replacing it with another one, considering they've had 6 goes at trying to rectify the problem? Time to kick up an almighty stink, methinks, car doesn't seem fit for purpose.

I agree - I thought it was all fixed. The dealership had the car for a week (again) and got Ford Technical support to help. The car was given back (fully valeted for once) and I thought great, all sorted.

No. Yesterday two more Engine Fault messages and limp home modes, so when I am back on Friday Ford will be getting the keys to my car and I'm not accepting them back.

The vehicle is clearly not fit for purpose in that it breaks down almost every time it is on the motorway, dangerously into limp home mode at 70mph. The dealership have put their hands up and said they can't fix it, but equally will not replace it.

Grrrrrr.

They could be some cross words tomorrow.

Visits to dealership = 7

Sale Of Goods Act - google it and read it thoroughly.
Then tell dealer if he won't accept your rejecting the car as 'of unmerchandisable quality' and permitting them to repair the fault more times than enough, then you'll see them in court.
Any finance on the car - talk to them, and inform them no further payments will be made.
Contact Ford directly and tell them you're rejecting the car, and if a replacement is not forthcoming, then off to Honda you will go - which all things considered, would probably be the ideal solution.

Don't let any of them fob you off with bollox of excuses - enough attempts at repair have been done, it's a replacement or full refund.

Good advice....except the bit about stopping finance company repayments! This would risk your credit ratings as the finance company is not causing the problem. Even if it is Ford credit, they're a separate subsidiary and will behave as such.

Have you tried asking Peugeot to have a look at it? It is their engine after all... I was always a bit nervous when Ford decieded to get involved with the Frenchies with the Diesel engines.

Touch wood, the 1.6 version in my Focus has been ok so far apart from a small oil leak. A colleagues Volvo with the same engine as yours has had an engine fault code problem and oil leak too.

Hope you get the refund you are after.

Paul.

Absolutely. SOGA their arse (so to speak).

If the car is (I assume) <3mths old and it's been back 6 times, then frankly it's a lemon and quite unfit for purpose. As it's a Ford dealership they'll probably force you to take them to court, but perhaps including Ford UK customer services in the correspondence may pre-empt that - I'm sure Ford would rather a happy customer with a new Focus than a lost customer forever (well, you'd hope so...).

Best of luck,

Martin
