Mondeo rattling (different to other recent post!)

Hi all,

I have a '99 V-reg mondeo zetec and have developed a rattling over the last few months.

The rattle appears to come from underneath the engine, rather than the engine itself, although it is hard to tell.
It occurs when the car is idling, and at speeds up to about 20 miles an hour. The rattling also occurs sometimes during gear changes, although again usually at the lower speeds. It 'sounds' metalic although I could be wrong.
As with most people, I don't want a huge garrage bill for something really simple, so any help or ideas appreciated.

just a thought, is it the baffles in one of your exhaust boxes as they break inside

Thanks for the suggestion. I have managed to resolve the problem which became urgent after a whistling also started occuring when I accelerated.
The catalyst had become loose, and it was this rattling around. Replaced without a problem and car is now running nicely.
