Mondeo Mk2 Air Con
Discussion
Anyone have any knowledge of the air con system fitted to the last of the mk 2 mondeos?
Mine tends to blow air at you at roughly the same temperature as it is outside - cold on a cold day and hot on a hot day. Tried regassing it at the weekend as a pressure check showed it was very low to non existent.
After doing that there's been no difference - it holds the pressure but as soon as you take off the pressure guage and re-apply it all the pressure vanishes.
I can't see any leaks and it sounds like the compressor/pump switches on when the wee button is pressed.
Any ideas what it is likely to be - a blockage or something?
Alternatively, where in Edinburgh or Lothians do a decent cheap pressure check/repairs? Don't have the time at the mo to attempt it, and don't have the nerve to tamper with a high pressure system...

How are you checking this?
I can't understand how the pressure is stable when your check it, but then it goes.
If the system is too low on gas, the compressors clutch will not lock up, you can easily check if it's cutting in by watching it when an assistant presses the button.
you should notice the centre section of the pulley snap in and begin spinning.
clicking in, but low cooling is usually a classic sign of low gas charge, the system can lose 20% a year if it's not used all the time.
Mondeos of all ages have a weakness at the bottom corners of the condensor, stone damage and the like cause holes in the core, but you should have noticed a damp patch as the gas and oil charge has escaped.
