I think the likes of Martin Schanche who used to
run a 1000bhp RS200 in rallycross a while back
used an Xtrac gearbox. I remember he was at the back
of the grid in one race after an infringement and when
the lights changed he pulled onto the grass and passed
everyone before the first corner!!! He used to win crash
or break a driveshaft on the start line. great stuff.

As I understand the skyline box can take plenty, another one to look at is an early supra box for RWD.

As you know, the RS200 is rear engined, from which there is a drive shaft to the front of the car where the gearbox is, can't remember the exact position of the transfer box in relation to the gearbox though. So the gearbox from an RS200 probably wouldn't be suitable for a Cossy.

see whatyour saying but surely you can swing the box through 180 degrees so its pointing the ohter way, then flip the diffs so everything still goes the right way!

also i have seen similar boxes to the cossy used in mid engined 4WD cars.

thanks Chris.

I was thinking that on the cossy the gearbox is bolted to the engine via the bellhousing whereas the RS200 is going to have a shaft going into it. I could well be wrong about suitability BTW.
