Got a strange one on my 98 R Puma. It's done 65K with no issues except a new exhaust. Travelled back from Scotland last weekend and after wringing the car's neck getting out of busy junction, noticed that the Revs rose when I put my foot down from low speed in 5th gear, without the increase in forward motion. Driving the car up and down through the box' gave no issues and the car never missed a beat at 90mph + all the way home?

Is the clutch on it's way out? Have I got a fluid leak (i noticed that the salve cylinder is inside clutch bellhousing? recommendations?

Almost certainly fluid leaking. I had two clutches on my puma before 80k, both of which were ultimately caused by fluid leaking and contaminating the clutch plate.

It can be intermitant too, I had the problem a couple of times then it didnt occur again for months..

Having said the clutch on the puma apparently only has a 40k lifespan!

Anybody else have experience of sub-70K Clutch life?

Quizzed a couple of people where I work, who own Puma's and it seems the clutch won't do the 100K/10Yr durability cycle expected of most manufacturers.... Other peoples failed around 70K too.

I had the same problem with slipping clutch yesterday coming out of Cheltenham( S reg 1.7 67,000m) after friday afternoon stop -start rush hour stuff, went to pull out of a junction on a hill, revs going upwards, car almost going backwards! 30mph uphill in any gear(tried them all) queue of commuters behind! after the road levelled out it was perfectly fine & has been since, presume fluid problem ,but will get it checked out. still the best car I have ever had !
