Howdy folks, never been down here in the Ford forum before, but thought I'd say hello . Just bought a 2000 Mondeo Ghia X 2.0L. Full to the gills with kit and running ok (full spec is on my profile).
The phone speaker has already been moved to the passanger footwell. Spot the MOST ridiculus place to put it !
Quick question if I may, my remote key does not work especially well even after a new battery. Is there somewhere in particular I should be aiming it at? Manual doesn't stipulate anywhere in particular.

depends if its an infra-red one or not - if its got the wee glass window on the key then I think the receiver is by the door handle?
If its a radio one then point it whereever you like, but touching your head seems to work best
Have a look at www.mirez.co.uk for plenty of useful info

Just did the recoding on the mirez site and the pumas remote locking is working again , so try that 1st before the dealer.
Cheers, did the puma work at all before hand? Mine is interrmittant, having to push the button several times (sometimes on the first go, generally not) irrispective of where I stand with the key. Thanks.
No ,nothing at allThe remote light worked but it just lost all configuration with the car , if yiu havent changed the battery try that and refreshing it by doing the set up might help , bear in mind it infra red remote and needs to be pointed at the receiver , in the puma its by the interior light , edited to add : yours has radio remote so it should work within a certain range .

Yea, radio remote here. I'm thinking it's the key as there is a new battery in it but it didn't help at all. On the odd occasion it'll open straight away, but generally I have to stand there plipping away before something happens. I'll ring Ford I think, to see if the re-programming will help.
Thanks mate .

Wow cheers Dennis, ok then.... been looking on ebay, and there's lots of them! Last question.... Can local shops cut a key if I just buy a blank? It's just that I'm not to keen on having an ebay seller know my address and have a copy of the key to my car.
You should be able to buy any old key fob (or a new Ford one for about £40!) and program it to your car. The actual metal part of the key detaches and clips onto the front of the fob so if its just a replacement you don't need to get a new one cut.
The problem you've got sounded the same as mine was, and was fixed with a new fob.
An added problem is that on some cars there is meant to be an additional switch in the software to prevent you from programming in new keys (to stop people getting spares cut for fleet cars etc). If that is on, then the wee glass tube in the key (the PATS bit) won't be recognised by the car. If thats the case, you need to pop open the old one, carefully cut out the glass tube (don't damage it!!!) and put it into the replacement keyfob.
