Mondeo RCL re-coding?
Discussion
Since getting my '98 Mundane-o, I've only recently got round to renewing the batteries in the key. I press the button to find the key's LED working but sure enough it has no effect whatsoever on the car! The manual says it needs re-coding and surprise surprise your local dealer will be more than happy to do this for you.
As I'm led to believe this can cost upwards of £50 I decided to have a google round and found instructions for several different methods on various ford based sites, needless to say none seem to work so was wondering if anyone here on PH knows better than those on lesser sites?
Cheers
From what I can remember you need to have the Master key (could be a RED one) When you have that you need to do a Mason's hand shake by putting the RED key in the ignition turning to position II then doing the same with the New key and the RED LED on the dash should blink to let you know all is Ok.
Its been a while since I had to do this.

Cheers. Oops, I just re-read my post and it seems I neglected to mention its the central locking "zapper" I want re-coding. I think the red key is for programming the immobiliser to accept new keys. Should've made that clearer, sorry.
Anyway, after an afternoon of fiddling and swearing I had some limited success with this method.
a mondeo 'how-to' type site said:
Radio Frequency Programming Instructions:
Insert the ignition key and turn from position II (Ignition) to position 0 (All off) and back four times within three seconds.
Remove the ignition key. The locking control system is now in "learn mode" for the next 20 seconds and the red warning system LED (By the clock) stays on continuously to indicate this.
During the 20 seconds press one of the transmitter buttons. The remotes signal and code number is learned by the locking module and is indicated by flashing the warning system LED.
Wait until learn mode times out (20 seconds) or switch the ignition back to ON.
Now, the led on the dash flashed as described and I jumped out all excited to test it and...........nothing!
As the car indicated it recognised the key, I presume both the zapper is transmitting and the car is receiving correctly but for some other reason the doors are not locking/unlocking when I press the button. Also the central locking works fine if you physically insert the key into the lock as normal.
Any ideas?
Anyone?
Please I'm going mental!!!!
Many thanks
Have a look at mirez mondeo - depending what key it is there's a couple of methods on that site.

I've also seen on someones site that there is a lock-out to prevent you programming in new keys to the car - useful for hire companies etc that don't want copies of keys being made. If thats true and its locked, then you can guess where you have to go to unlock it...!

do as likesbikes suggested as it is correct procedure, if not get the fob tested, most decentgarages have a remote tester, if it works then its the control module.dont buy a new one,get one from a breakers, its far cheaper.
up above the throttle pedal there is a black plastic box about 6" long with a blue and a green plug in it ,it has a sticker on it saying alarm/c,locking interface, with an eagle emblem on it.
its held in at either end with a screw, plug into your car and program as instructed. when you turn key after the fourth turn you should hear a chime which indicates programming mode, your fob will control it if the fob is any good.
Ive changed many and it always works.
If the fob is faulty they are quite cheap new.
