How often should a Mondeo turbodiesel cam belt be changed? How much is it likely to cost?

I'm in the market for a high mileage Mondeo TD, and several of the cars I'm looking at have had a cam change at the 60-70k point and are now close to double that. The only info I've been able to find online seems to indicate that the cam belt should be changed around 36k miles. Being a diesel the cambelt is going to get a pretty hard life, and presumably the engine won't be safe so I guess cam belt failure would be pretty terminal. So just driving it until it pops probably isn't a good idea.

I have heard they are a 60k interval but most places recomend changing before 40k as they have been known to go early. So I would probably get it done to be sure.
When my dad got the cambelt done on my mums mondeo 1.8 (petrol) it cost around £100 +parts I think, which is worth spending to stop the engine going bang I would think.

I'm pretty sure my brother mentioned a figure of about 100 quid for his 95 1.8td.

Depends on the age of the mondeo
40k or 70k depending on age, costs for fitting will vary too depending on a few things. I'd recommend the cam belt care package which includes a new tensioner and idler pulley with the 2 belts.

It's around 3 hours to do a set of mondy, so don't expect a cheap job.

Ooh ooh ooh.....I happen to be selling such a vehicle right now. I just haven't got around to putting an ad up anywhere ('scuse me Mods) so a brief outline would be (without moving away from the pc and physically checking these things!).........

140,000 mile green M-plate (only about 50thou or so of those on a recon engine)
approx. 9 months MOT
no tax
headlights only about 18 months old (common problem on Mondys this age I believe)

£450 as it stands.
