Hi
Can anyone tell me whether you are supposed to press off the front bearing on a 03 model Transit front bearing or should it tap out?

Mine won't budge!

Cheers

LOL

Now theres a question

The bearing unit on the front of current Transits of both front and rear wheel drive types is bolted to the bearing carrier with 5 x T50 torx bolts. once you've got the claiper and the bolts out of the way you need to undo the large nut in the centre. depending on your drive train it'll hold the drive shaft in or a stub shaft.

There is a special tool used for forcing the bearing unit out of it's recess on the hub carrier, but in reality it's quite a poor design. But getting the bearing unit off is the easy bit.

Pressing the bearing unit off the hub flange is a nightmare I've seen one stay put on the hub with a 50ton load on it. most dealers cut the bearing race off the hub for this reason.

If your sure you want to have a go yourself, i can give you some tips on how to get the bearing and hub assembly off the carrier.

One other point of note......if the vehicle is sub 100k miles and was supplied by a UK dealer your 03 vehicle should still be covered by warranty. Front wheel bearing failure is a known concern.

Hope that helps.
