I have a 1.8 focus (T reg 105k miles) i think its a great car fun to drive handles well etc im just longing for more power I cant afford a new ST so im thinking of upgrading to the ST170.

Iv heard a few people say they arent as good as they hoped not quite powerful enough is it going to be worth the 6-7k upgrade cost?

Drove one (a boss's at my work) after owning a 1.7 Puma. Less than impressed.

I bought one after owning a 1.7 Puma (Which i loved) for 4 years. I needed a more practical, slightly more refined car so went for the ST170.

I have done 20k since buying it 12 months ago and still really enjoy driving it. I personally think its got enough poke (just) - coming from the 1.8 I am pretty sure you would love it.

That said its not up to CTR and Clio 182 standards in terms of pace, but its a slightly different type of car in my opinion.

Handling is great, as with all the focus models. Reasonable torque from low down. Fairly refined for motorway driving. To get the best performance it does need to be revved hard. The gearing is quite long which takes a little getting used to initially, can feel a little sluggish until you get used to working the gearbox.

One of my favorite aspects of owning it is that its a bit of a Q car. I think it surprises a few people out on the road as the styling is quite subtle.

I certainly think its a good package for the money especially as prices have dropped.

I can echo the refined rather than racing statements. Shouldn't be compared with the CTR which is faster (straight line at least)

If you can wait two months mine will be up for sale (new ST due in March)

We met on a Liphook run last summer (you got to spend the day in the 993 you lucky git!) so I'm guessing you're local?
