ST24 Modifying
Discussion
Hi all,
Sorry if this is a repost,
Ive had my ST24 a little while now, makes a change whilst the cossie is off the road,
Its quite fast and sounds nice, so far ive got a pipercross vector induction kit on it, and a powerflow exhaust (de catted),
I was wondering what the next stage is on these, as I know there hard to modify due to tuning parts being in rare supply, I understand that an ST200 throttle body would be a worthwhile conversion, I was wondering what sorta camshafts to go for (if any), or maybes whether some bits off an ST220 would fit.
Any comments welcome
p.s car is a 98 (R) and has covered 72k miles
Cheers
Ross

It depends how far you really want to go. If you just want to do little to it then have a look at getting a bluefin or some other sort of chip. Get a session on the rollers and it should make a big difference.
For cams you would be best off contacting someone like piper or Kent and see if they do any. If not I know piper will re profile your cams to suit your needs.

If you go for the ST200 throttle body you may want to consider also sourcing the Upper and Lower inlet manifolds too. They are rare and sell at a premium but will give you almost ST200 power.
I've heard that the Bluefin is not that great, a Unichip is better as its set up whilst in the car...not cheap mind, about £450 if I remember correctly.
Depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of power youre looking for...250bhp is possible with a supercharger!
There is loads of info over at www.fordmondeo.org which I where I spend a lot of my time!
Hope that helps.

I've just put a new engine in mine an took the time to investigate tuning options. As stated there is very little you can do and parts are hard to come by.
Supercharging was an option, however Vortech have stopped making the kit due to some serious failures of the lay shaft driving the supercharger, I don't know of anybody else making a full kit. The larger MAF's made in america are also hard to come by as the manufacturer has gone bust! You can go the ST200 throttle body route, but without the inlet manifolds you'll apparently need to modify the standard upper inlet manifold.
The best route is to go for the Chip, I want to do this once the new engine is run in, as this will also give a platform on which further modifications can be tuned in.
You should see nearly 200 bhp with the chip, air filter and exhaust done.
A good maintenance task for smoother running and possible extra power is to thoroughly clean the upper and lower inlet manifolds, the lower one can cause problems with sticky butterflies on the secondary inlets. It would also be worth doing a bit of port matching around this area as well.
