Thinking of buying one of these, wondered if the PH massive can give me their honest opinions on pros/cons?
Im stepping out of an Audi A4 quattro which I really like but have the urge for a change and there isnt really much out there at the moment that tugs at the heart strings, so I thought a step sideways and see whats about in 12 months time. Thinking of a 6 month old ST (let someone else take the depreciaiton hit for a change!)
The salesman steered me at the Focus ST when I walked in the place but I a) wanted a bigger car and b) didnt like the interior (finish or colour)

I had a ST220 for awhile, i would definitely recommend it. I did try the ST TDCI but it wasn't really for me. as good as the in gear shove was in the ST TDCi, it wasn't as fast out right as the ST220 or have the huge flexible of the a 3.0L V6.
fuel consumption depends on how you drive it, have a look at my profile and see for your self at my own fuel consumption figures. If fuel consumption is really important getting a 3.0L V6 isn't the best option.
the only let down with the ST is the brakes, they work very well at stopping the car, its just that they mushy.

Having a test drive on Saturday (apparantly the sales manager has a Tuscan so shall turn up in the cerb and see if I can get a few more sheckles off the price). Running costs arent an issue as I'll put it all through my company. Anyway, not seeing much more than mid 20s mpg with the Audi if Im pushing on. Slightly concerened about the quality of the interior after the Audi, but then again, I havent looked in an ST spec Mondeo yet.
As I said, Im going to buy used (seem to be around the £15k-£18k mark, depending on spec) and will probably sell it again in 12-18 months. It doesnt have to be a fire breather as I have the cerb, but something that will do my daily commute of around 50 miles swiftly, comfortably and in some style. I think Im going to miss the quattro drive train in the winter, but Im a bit bored of it now (as good a car as it is)
I cant think of anything similar sized, for up to £25k (my original budget new was £35k, but I cant bring myself to face the depreciation of a new car again. Been there, done that. And even at that price, there was nothing that I thought to myself "God, I must have that car), that I really want. Like to have a little class, a little performance, and a little bling/bodykit. Mercs are a bit boring, done Audis. Done BMWs. Dont want a turbo nutter Jap car as a daily driver. Just something that goes well, looks good, easy to live with and be able to turn up for meetings in something I wont either get laughed at or thought was too OTT.

Drove the girlfriends Mondeo after a week in a laguna , I really have forgotten just how good the mondeo is , nice gear change and the 130 tdci will leave the 2.0 petrol laguna ive got for dead , all the controls steering gearchange feel so much more meaty , and the steering has loads of feel , only problem i have is with the brakes not having enough feel , its a very underrated car that badge snobs avoid , look past the badge and its a fantastic driving machine .
ive got a huge car list to pick from now but i think im going to get the st tdci

i will be selling this very soon if your interested it is in performance blue with raven leather
auto lights
auto wipers
power fold mirrors with puddle lights
6 speed
factory sony 6 disc in dash
heated seats etc
just had 2 new front contact sport 2s fitted last week and its second service at fords was done last week as well
it is totally scratch and dent free and i have loads of pictures if your interested also i am based in essex so not to far away

I had an ST220 last year. Lovely car to own/drive, pretty decent mpg (I hit 34mpg on a motorway run), well build, very comfortable, very well equipped and refined.
But, I prefer the power delivery of a turbo engine, having had Saab's, so you should try the STTDCi. I know one person who has had both and although he misses the top end power, he rather enjoys 45mpg!
ST220's are really cheap on the second hand market. I sold my 5 door black one after a year for £14100 with just 9,000 miles on the clock. Luckily, Ford staff discount mopped up a chunk of the depreciation. So, buy a ST220 only if you are getting a year old one!
If you are buying new, I'd suggest you look at the Focus ST. Depreciation will be a whole lot lower. It is more of a drivers car with effortless power delivery and the most amazing brakes - hugely better than the ST220. Is it a better car, you ask? Different, I would say.
