Can’t find much on the net except that Ford UK service seems to have worsened over the years. Ford Focus ST diesel, engine light came on with dpf fault 3 days before expiry of manufacturer warranty. FSH and 27000 miles. Notified immediately to Ford dealer and they said, we’ll book it in. Fault light came and went (90% it was there) and first time the dealer said no fault showing. 2nd time ‘computer says’ 4 injectors and dpf filter needed, no explanation. Ford UK are not playing ball, saying the car was outside warranty (although fault reported within). Unbelievable! Thoughts? And anyone experienced this fault? One injector replaced previously under warranty.

Perhaps 2 angles; it was an intermittent fault that happened and was reported prior to warranty expiring. Can you prove it's more likely than not the fault was occurring before the warranty expired?

Alternatively, if out of warranty, the car is not of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose (see Consumer Rights Act).

That is rather poor, is DPF/Injector covered under warranty?

I'd be feeling rather in control of this if you get escalating on it.

Write/Email/Call Ford UK customer service and register a complaint they will buckle. If that doesnt work a strongly worded letter to the top dogs office.

Has it got the modem and is it switched on? Ford PTS should give the date the fault occurred as long as recent enough

Thanks for the answers. 😀 What is the PTS, is it a log of events, and what type of data should I be asking the dealer for to show the history of the problem?

If your modem is on it gives a daily log, faults, tyre pressures, oil quality and all sorts of things. Post the reg if you like and I'll check it

Ford diagnostics don’t give an answer, as far as the dealerships are concerned. They just say ‘replace these parts’. Car was finally diagnosed by a diesel engineering company (who said they had just had a two year old low mileage 2l Ford diesel in with the same issue). They found the injectors were actually fine, but dpf had failed therefore automatic regen wasn’t being triggered. Likely cause - cracked dpf. Sounds like a design fault to me. Ford had already offered 85% towards costs (including injectors though probably not needed!). Two sources told me to bite their hand off and accept. I will hold onto the car for now as doing high mileage, and you can’t argue with 295lbft torque and 56mpg, and a manual, got to treasure the fossils while we have them!
