Hey all,

After some advice, hints, tips or possibilities.

We have a 2011 S Max Titanium X Sport 240 with an absolute PITA steering fault.

It’s our dog car and only does about 4k per year.

It lost any power assistance when turning right but turned left with assistance. Everything pointed to steering rack so had a new rack fitted along with track rods and ends and a new PS Res and fresh fluid. Bled the system and still no PS at all now.

Fitted a new pump along with aux belt and tensioner, system bled again and still no PS.

Now has a fault code showing which ForScan says “Steering Angle Sensor Calibration Required”. Tried to run calibration and ForScan aborts, says just to read fault codes which says “Calibration Required”, it’s an endless loop!

Me and our mechanic are stumped. We can’t figure out why it has no PS at all, even if the sensor is faulty would expect some PS assistance. System is completely bled.

It’s cost a small fortune so far and can’t be throwing new parts at it constantly even though now running out of parts to change!

Any hints or possibilities we are overlooking be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Novexx

It sounds like there may be an issue with the clockspring that's preventing calibration (possible it was this all along).

Thanks.

We tore it all apart yesterday between us, double checked everything that had been done and bled the system again.

Ran diagnostics again and this time we have two codes showing, one for calibration and another showing a communication problem with the steering control module.

Ordered a new Steering Column Housing from Ford but reckon after what you said, worth putting a new clock spring in as it’s all going to have to come apart anyway.
