Ford Puma ST or 155
Discussion
My wife currently drives a Fiat Panda that is on its last legs. I have a Mazda MX5. We are considering going to just one car now as we are both nearing retirement. My wife is a physiotherapist and believes that it will become increasingly difficult for us to get in and out of a low car like the MX5 as we age. (Bang goes my plan to lower the springs then!)
We are looking for something that is relatively small and easily accessible (like the Panda) but which is also fun to drive (like the MX5). The Ford Puma is one model that seems to fit the bill.
So here is my question. My heart says that I should splash out and go the full hog for a ST version. My head (and my wallet) says that a 1.0L version (possibly with 155 bhp) should more than fit the bill. Has anyone here experience of both? Any advice would be appreciated.

My wife had an ST from new for 3 years (sold it Friday) and we thoroughly tested both the ST and the 155 hybrid before she chose the ST.
They are significantly different to drive. The ST is firm (too firm, I’d say) but is much faster and more fun. However, if your wife is unlikely to flick it into sport mode and rev the guts out of it I’d say the 155 does 90% of the same job, looks virtually identical and is far more comfortable. My wife’s only really got to stretch its legs when I was asked to drive, the rest of the time it pootled around enthusiastically knocking your teeth out on speed bumps. It was also not particularly economical, averaging low 30s at best, despite her gentle right foot. On a more enthusiastic drive it would hover in the low 20s.
Hope that helps a little.
