Ford Focus Ecoboost Nightmare

Has anyone else experienced the cylinder problem on a three-cylinder Ford EcoBoost? Unfortunately, it happened to my car last week and now it's sitting on my driveway. The local garage suggested that I should contact Ford, which I am in a back-and-forth with atm. I have read some stories of Ford paying for repairs after signing NDAs, but I'm not sure if maybe that policy has now ended.

Are we discussing something newish or ancient and had some hammer ?

That facebook page details some cars as new as 2019, with as little as 40 kmiles having engine failures.

Perhaps the car have been clocked, or had no maintenance. The theory seems to be they are very sensitive to having CLEAN oil of exactly the right type ie "Castrol Edge for Ecoboosts".

The wrong oil dissolving the belts is one thing, coolant loss is another.

It sounds like Ford UK are doing a Post Office !

It was a 2-14 reg on 48,000 miles. Mostly short trip, city type driving.

they're definitely trying to keep the cover on these early "efficient" 3 cylinder ecoboost models

I have also got a cylinder problem on my 4year old 48000mile Ford focus.
I've just been told it has deep grooves (cause unknown) and I need a new engine (£7k)!
It has a full Ford service history.
The dealership have approached Ford to see what if anything they will offer toward the cost and I'm currently waiting to hear.
Would be interested to hear of any other similar issues and subsequent financial recompense.

We also have one, 8 years old and 75k miles.. hasn’t been serviced at Ford for a couple of years.

It’s pretty annoying as it’s had a fair amount of work done which isn’t what I’d class as wear and tear either.

To save starting a new threads, are all Ecoboosts wet belt or did they change on the later ones.

All 1.0 eco boosts have a wet belt, early ones have oil pump and cambelt belts, later ones have timing chain and belt for oil pump.

when I worked at Ford it was pretty much a standard yes to replace anything before 2017. I would speak to your local ford dealer. you may have to pay a diag fee but if they say yes this will all be covered under warranty. if not - you would be £100 worse off but you would have a definitive answer
