KA rear axle

Lady at work has a very low mileage 8 year old KA, just been told her rear axle needs replacing.
Now I admit to knowing nothing about the KA but remember Peugeot rear axles were a weak point.
Is the KA the same. She's been quoted £1000 to replace by her local garage.

Fiat 500's ( on which these are based) have a very common axle corrosion problem.
The good news is new upgraded ones only cost £150.
